Some new contributions merged in and some placeholders added. 1 Executive Summary / Introduction The " Social Semantic Desktop " project NEPOMUK 1 , that has been going on for three years (2006–2008) has now reached its end. This deliverable reports the achievements of the third and final year of NEPOMUK's work package 1 named " Knowledge Articulation and Visualisation ". Previous work in this work-package has been described in the deliverables D1. Bogdan 2008) and many additional publications referred to in these deliverables. The multitude of tools described in D1.2 " Conceptual Data Structure Tools " , has been integrated more tightly – with one another and with the NEPOMUK back-end services: Some have been integrated into the rich and monolithic NEPOMUK application framework PSEW, some have fused into small stand-alone applications that all connect to the NEPOMUK back-end to integrate and share their contents with other NEPOMUK components. PSEW/NepomukSimple (Sec. 2) NepomukSimple is a so-called perspective of NEPOMUK PSEW – combining a selection of well-integrated tools and services in one holistically designed appearance. It allows users to organise, annotate, search and browse their desktop resources. It is based on the Pile concept used to manage groups of resources (not only files, but also address book entries, calendar entries, concepts and Web links). Some information is displayed in specialised Views, including a time-line and a map. NepomukSimple uses background services like IBM Galaxy, which provides recommendations for related items. NepomukSimple has also been integrated with some extensions to widespread third-party software such as Mozilla Firefox (Web browser) and Thunderbird (email client). A more sophisticated email tool also backed by PSEW is Semanta which enhances plain email with semantic information. Visual Knowledge Workbench / iMapping Client (Sec. 3.1) The iMapping client is now a stand-alone tool for structuring ideas and concepts freely, in a visual, graph-based environment without being constrained by a formal model. It uses CDS (" Conceptual Data Structures ") as a flexible adaptable data model. iMapping combines several established visual knowledge modelling paradigms and bridges the gap between informal brainstorming and note-taking applications to more formal ontology-based applications like PSEW. The iMapping client now includes QuiKey – an advanced lightweight tool that can be compared to a semantic command line. While it can be easily installed and used completely stand-alone, it will use a NEPOMUK server if present to align with other NEPOMUK applications. SemNotes (Sec. 3.2.1) …
